[Short Story ] The Ultimate Search

Siddarth is restless. An idea took root in his mind and wouldn’t let him settle. He wants to see the most beautiful thing in this world. Determined to find the answer, he decided to put the question to his philosopher and guide, his mother.

“Mother, please tell me what is the most beautiful thing in this world?”, asked Siddarth.

“You need to go the top of highest mountain in the north. You need to cross mountains, rivers, valleys to find it. It’s not an easy journey, so be very careful. Only blame yourself if you cannot see it after you reach”

Siddarth started long, arduous journey to find it. He travelled for weeks going past mountains, river valleys, cities. He was focused, eyes glued to the road ahead not even distracted by thunderstorms. He reached top of the highest mountain in the north. He was bitterly disappointed. It was barren, deserted devoid of anything remotely beautiful or alive. He felt cheated. He sobbed and sobbed for hours.

‘Blame yourself’. It struck him all of sudden. Beauty was not at the mountain peak. It was all along the route. He started the return journey with this joy of discovery. “I will lookout for what’s around”, he said to himself.

He was astonished to see the majesty of the mountain ranges kissing the clouds. Valleys were deep, evoking scare and wonder. He saw lush green of the valleys. He was mesmerized by purple, yellow flowers covering the hill slopes. River gushed through valley singing songs of nature. Birds were flying between the mountain ranges celebrating the beauty around them. Boulders lay unperturbed by the zillion events around them. He came across cities, brimming with life and energy.
Clouds roared and roared, finally pouring rain in joy making everything around more and more beautiful.

He returned to his home, overwhelmed with joy. His mother has managed to teach a simple but important lesson.

Be serious with what you do in life but not so serious that you miss the whole point of it”

[Opinion] Which one is better, Idealism or Realism?

Idealism is when you envision or see things in an ideal or perfect manner. Realism, on the other hand, tends toward a more pragmatic and actual view of a situation. These two approaches are familiar to most of the us even though we are not familiar with the formal definitions of them. So which one among these is better?           We are familiar with benefits of a positive mindset. Idealism helps greatly in having a positive mindset. A person with a positive mindset will be more hopeful, motivated and at peace with his situation. Believing things like good ultimately wins over evil, every act in life has a purpose etc can help in having peaceful mind. Believing that efforts will be rewarded will keep us motivated in our work. If we can believe all people are good, then we will have no need to judge, suspect or doubt anyone's intentions. If there is a super-natural power, it will take care of all the evil and we need not worry about it. It is ...

[English Poem] Trip to Florida

I wrote the below poem while returning from a trip to Florida. We were 7 friends who visited Florida for 4 days. The poem is about our experiences on the trip. Bursts of excitement, frenzies of panic is how it started  With a plan that was never total, journey started with a day at Hollywood Looking at with surprise, we went about discovering her as Florida has a soul of its own We reached Key West feeling  it on the way, as it is more like a poem than a place  Jumping out of a plane, snorkeling like a whale  Confidence floating sky high Word impossible was invisible for a day Watching sea swallow the sun and then flaunt hats of dark clouds  Lines between dream and reality were blurred for a moment How long can you stare at a wall? How powerful is the visual art? Wynwood walls changing answers to these questions How beautiful can a beach city be? Miami mimed and said there is no limit Both turned out to be shocking discoveries  With bunch of friends around ...
