2020 in Books

I was fortunate to be able to read many books in 2020. This is list of the books I read in 2020 along with a brief review of them.

-> Cosmos

Best book I have read in 2020. For anyone interested in science, this one is a must read. Though not up to date with recent scientific findings as it is written few decades back, still makes an enlightening read with its scientific philosophy, breadth of knowledge and excellent writing style.

This is biography of the most famous entrepreneur of our generation. His personal life, early business ventures and eventual success are covered in great detail. If you are interested in either business or engineering, this one is a must read.

-> Gandhi - years that changed the world

I have read several books about Gandhi before this one. This was definitely best of the lot because of its comprehensiveness and engaging narrative style of Ramachandra Guha. Fact that is nearly 1000 pages could be the only concern.

[Opinion] Which one is better, Idealism or Realism?

    Idealism is when you envision or see things in an ideal or perfect manner. Realism, on the other hand, tends toward a more pragmatic and actual view of a situation. These two approaches are familiar to most of the us even though we are not familiar with the formal definitions of them. So which one among these is better?           We are familiar with benefits of a positive mindset. Idealism helps greatly in having a positive mindset. A person with a positive mindset will be more hopeful, motivated and at peace with his situation. Believing things like good ultimately wins over evil, every act in life has a purpose etc can help in having peaceful mind. Believing that efforts will be rewarded will keep us motivated in our work. If we can believe all people are good, then we will have no need to judge, suspect or doubt anyone's intentions. If there is a super-natural power, it will take care of all the evil and we need not worry about it. It is ...

[English Poem] Trip to Florida

I wrote the below poem while returning from a trip to Florida. We were 7 friends who visited Florida for 4 days. The poem is about our experiences on the trip. Bursts of excitement, frenzies of panic is how it started  With a plan that was never total, journey started with a day at Hollywood Looking at with surprise, we went about discovering her as Florida has a soul of its own We reached Key West feeling  it on the way, as it is more like a poem than a place  Jumping out of a plane, snorkeling like a whale  Confidence floating sky high Word impossible was invisible for a day Watching sea swallow the sun and then flaunt hats of dark clouds  Lines between dream and reality were blurred for a moment How long can you stare at a wall? How powerful is the visual art? Wynwood walls changing answers to these questions How beautiful can a beach city be? Miami mimed and said there is no limit Both turned out to be shocking discoveries  With bunch of friends around ...
